Walking Trails

Along our vast 44 hectare estate we have created visible walking trails for those who wish to explore the vineyards and beautiful countryside of Quinta dos Vales with the assistant of our handy map. These trails are also safe to do jogging if you want to get a scenic workout.

  • Querença & Fonte Benémola (Loulé)
  • When: Every day | Where: At the hill top village of Querença is a beautiful introduction to the Algarvian interior. Querença is situated in the middle of the so called Barrocal, a transition area in between the Algarvian coast and the northern mountain range. | Duration: 4 hours | Difficulty: Easy | Costs: 30 €
  • Rocha da Pena (Loulé)
  • When: Fridays | Where: On a lime stone plateau which was declared a Classified Site in October 1991 to preserve the landscaping, biological patrimony and sustainable development of this part of the Barrocal area. Duration: 2,5 -3 hours with optional lunch after the tour | Difficulty: Easy | Costs: Half day tour: 37 €, children under 12 years old: 18,50 €
  • Serra de Monchique
  • When: Wednesdays | Where: In the quiet and green Serra de Monchique. Enjoy the scent of wild flowers, eucalyptus and pine trees. Walk on centuries old donkey tracks and goat paths. | Duration: 6 hours (walking time 3,5 hours; 11 km) | Difficulty: Easy | Costs: 38 €
  • Nordic walking clinics
  • When: Mondays | Where: In the serene natural scenery of the Ria de Alvor near Quinta da Rocha Duration: 2 hours | Difficulty: moderate | Costs: 10 clinics of 2 hours: 200 € (private nordic walking clinics for yourself or you and your friends can be organised on request)
  • Praia do Beliche (Sagres, Vila do Bispo)
  • When: Monday and Friday | Where: In a natural park near Sines, Alentejo to Burgau in the council of Vila do Bispo, Algarve | Difficulty: Moderate | Duration: 3 hours and about 7,7 km | Costs: 25 €
  • Vale Santo (Sagres, Vila do Bispo)
  • When: Wednesdays | Where: Beliche in a natural park with extensive coastline and innumerous water courses | Difficulty: Moderate | Duration: 4 hours and about 14,5 km | Costs: 40 €

 

Querença & Fonte Benémola (Loulé)

The guide will take you on a 4 hour walk through the picturesque village of Querença and its typical sites; through Menalva river valley, where the biodiversity will amaze you with the cork oaks, willows, oleanders, junipers growing on the hill sides and the otters, frogs, and salamanders co-existing in the waters of the river. Fonte Benémola is the final destination and is one of the springs in the valley below Querença, being a popular site for birdwatching, where hoopoes, bee-eaters, warblers and many other species can be spotted. It gained the status of Classified Site in 1991. The walking tour can be booked for any week day, all year round. The guiding is in English and insurance is included. | 4 hour tour: 30 €

Rocha da Pena (Loulé)

The natural ex-libris for the Salir and Benafim parishes from Loulé council is the Rocha da Pena. In this walking route you can identify, with the help of the guide, many of the 500 species of flora existing in this region, such as dwarf fan palms, narcissus, lavender, and thyme. Many animals will certainly also cross your path, it could be either a rabbit or hare, a fox or even bats; aside from those, jays, buzzards or short-toed eagles hoover that region, attracted by the 50 meters high rocks. After the 2,5 to 3 hour walk you can have a taste of typical gastronomy during a light lunch in a local which is included as well as pick up and drop off at your accommodation. The guiding is in Portuguese, English, German, or Dutch. | The walking tour can be joined every Friday, whole year round. Half day tour: 37 €, children under 12 years old: 18,50 €

Serra de Monchique

  Enjoy a full day's walk in the quiet and green Serra de Monchique, surrounded by orange groves, fig and almond trees, eucalyptus and cork forest. We start walking the forest tracks around the mountain village and we also visit old convent which was built in 1634 and the typical daily market in town. A tasty lunch is included in a local café-restaurant at the central square of Monchique. The activity ends around 4.00 pm in the historical spa resort of Caldas de Monchique. A mini van will await you there and bring you back to the starting point in Monchique. The total walking distance is 11 km and net walking time about 3,5 hours. A moderate level of fitness is required to fully back to the starting point in Monchique. Nordic walking clinics

Nordic walking is similar to regular walking, but with the use of specifically designed Nordic walking poles, up to 40% more effective. The light weight carbon poles help you not only use your legs, but also involve and train your upper body while walking. Nowadays Nordic walking is known as one of the most sociable sport activities in combination with very effective exercise techniques. The serene natural scenery of the Ria de Alvor near Quinta da Rocha offers beautiful Nordic walking conditions. The route is about 6 km long and takes you along quiet and mostly flat paths. | Every Monday 10 am (English, Portuguese, German or Dutch). 10 clinics of 2 hours: 200 € (private clinics available)

Praia do Beliche (Vila do Bispo)

The Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina (PNSACV) is considered one of the richest of Portugal and Europe. About 750 species of plants are known to the natural park. Besides its diversity of local, endemic or rare species, Sagres sees the largest bird migration with more than 2000 individuals of different species. Due to protective restrictions to visiting groups, the group of walkers will not exceed 10 persons including the guide. Leaving from Beliche beach, the guide will lead you along the cliff tops of the Vicentina coast in a total of 7,7 km. The Beliche walk takes place every Monday and Friday, all year round. Included in the price for the walk is insurance, water, and a little snack. Guiding is in Portuguese and, or in English. | 3 hour walk: 25 €

Vale Santo (Sagres, Vila do Bispo)

Within the natural park, a part of the peninsula near Sagres is considered the Sagres Biogenetic Reserve and that's the area where this 14,5 km walk takes place. Between September and October, Sagres sees the largest bird migration with more than 2000 individuals of different species. it is the only place known in the world where the White Stork nests on the cliffs. Due to protective restrictions to visiting groups, the group of walkers will not exceed 10 persons including the guide. The meal is included and is an excellent opportunity to have a taste of fresh local products and get to know more about gastronomy and the fisherman's way of life on this unique and remote coast. | 4 hour walk: 40 €
