Despite heavy rains during the days before the event, Quinta dos Vales’ visitors were greeted at the “Open Door 12” with beautiful sunshine.
Last Sunday approximately 3,500 visitors strolled through the grounds of the estate, enjoying numerous dance and music events, both on the panoramic terrace above the sculpture garden as well as in the newly opened “Cave de Bacchus”. They also viewed and participated in art and handicraft workshops, new sculpture-paintings, several live paintings and ceramic works of befriended artists.
The benches around the food courts were packed with guests and the tasting points for known as well as new wines were very busy as always. Special attention was given to the newly released “DUO” label, in which two matching varieties are paired, and naturally the “Grace Vineyard” 2009 red, recently nominated by “Revista de Vinhos” as one of the best wines of Portugal.
The newly presented Picadeiro and Fire-pit on “Terraço do Picadeiro” caused some attention with its simplified wood storage structures, which have a double function, both as art pieces as well as simple storage units.
Karl Heinz Stock, founder and manager of the estate, said: “One more time a big thank you to my team. Nearly 800 hours of preparation for this event have taken their toll, since all this work had to be done on top of our daily workload. It has paid off however as we are well compensated by the happy faces of our visitors. These “Open Doors” are very important for us, as we try to establish ourselves not only as one of the leading wine producers, but also as a place where all kind of private events can take place. With ‘Terraço do Picadeiro’ and ‘Cave de Bacchus’ we now have our third location for individualized events such as weddings, baptisms or other private and corporate parties.”
